Friends, let me share with you what a very successful man, lets call him BR, told me recently.He told me of an old benefactor of his who was an MD of a bank in the late 90s. He said this man was extremely generous with money and often gave double the amount of what people asked him in help. Concerned about this pattern of life, BR summoned courage one day to advise his helper on the need to save some money and invest for an uncertain future. The elderly bank MD felt insulted and asked BR whether he was praying for his downfall. BR apologised and moved on. About nine years later, this bank MD invited BR to his house somewhere in Lekki, Lagos. It was a half completed mansion. He invited BR because he needed three thousand dollars to pay some bills! What interested me most about the story was that BR told me that when he tearfully reminded his elderly benefactor of the advice he once offered, the man swore that he did not remember any such discussion and he was not pretending! THIS IS MOST OFTEN THE TRAGIC FATE OF GREAT INDIVIDUALS AND NATIONS OF THE WORLD!
