Friends of the T O Library Bus Trip to the L A County Natural History Museum The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library launches its 2015 cultural bus tour season with a visit to the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, which recently completed a six-year renovation in time for its just celebrated 100th anniversary. The Friends’ visit will take place on Sat., Jan. 24th. The tour starts at the Otis Building, with its new six-story-glass entrance displaying a 63-foot whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling as well as the three-and-a-half acre nature garden containing trees, beautiful plants, a listening tree, a bird viewing platform, a living wall, an edible garden, a nature lab and even a “get dirty zone.” Inside the new Dinosaur Hall are three tyrannosaurus-rex skeletons, including one believed to be the youngest t-rex specimen ever found. Another exhibit not to be missed is the new Becoming Los Angeles, a permanent display featuring 500 years’ worth of artifacts telling the story of Los Angeles’ history. The price is $30 for Friends members and $35 for non-members; price includes the bus, the driver’s gratuity, the bus parking and the admission to the museum. An additional $8 (group-rate) allows you to see a traveling exhibit, Grande Maestros: Grand Masters of Libero American Folk Art of over 800 works, including colorful masks, intricate textiles, yarn paintings, hand-carved miniature animals and quite a bit more. Lunch is on your own. You have two on-site choices of local restaurants or you may bring your lunch, as there are nearby picnic areas. The bus boards at 8:15 a.m. and leaves at 8:30 a.m. from the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, returning at approximately 4 p.m. For reservations or information call Carol at (805) 480-1450.
