Friends, this is not a core political posting or not even an apolotical one. Interesting One. I request you to read the posting till the end. I sincerely think that you will like the same. May please give your opinion on the subject. POLITICAL SPOKESMAN-SHIP -A DIFFERENT BALL GAME What is all about political spokesman-ship? The question comes to my mind at the backdrop of a 10 member-committee of spokesmen announced by BJD supremo. Political Spokesmanship is a domain far off from literary presentation, advocacy in court or even deliberations in debate. Most important (rather one and only) objective of a political spokesperson is to influence the audiances/viewers infavour of his party vis a vis political opponents. The acumen required for writing a coloumn in a News Papers is nothing to do with effective debating in politics. In contrast to political debating, writing coloumns and literary deliberations inovlve pouring of facts and statistics with a coherent contour to give a message without any real time countering voices on your messages. This is just like a foot ball player moving towards the goal post without having opposing players in front of or around him. The important real difference is that you are prone to real time countering voices in case of political debates. Likewise, in advocacy, you have to go on a dotted line of logic and law to establish your point of view. It may not be absolutely palatable and public perception is not relevant. On the contrary, political debating requires utterly palatable statements and public perception is of utmost importance. You need not be logical at times. And many times, you have to play to the gallaries even against your own logic. Only cardinal principle is that your statements on subject and verval onslaughts on opposition parties/members should impact the audidiances/viewers to have a favourable impression on your party and/or neggative perception on opponent political parties. Than, the important question arises as to what are the parts or requirements of an effective spokesmanship ? To my mind, it consists of three parts, such as, 1) Body language,2) Contents with articulation and 3) Political Thrusts. I don’t intend to go on detailing under each head as it would be inconvinient under this platform. However, these three heads are more or less self descriptive. Lack of even one of the requirements would destroy the sprit and purpose of the spokesperson’s endeauvour. It appears that most of the political leaders or say Spokespersons, in Odisha are adept in displaying only the No.2 part i.e. Contents with articulation and severely lack in or disregard the other more important parts 1) Body Language and 3) Political Thrusts. Hence, they are much blow the par if we compare them with the likes of Sitaram Yetchury, Ravishankar Prasad, Abhishekh Manusinghvi etc . of National Level. Across the political spectrum in Odisha, only 3/4 political spokespersons/leaders, who havekept under their sleeves the skill for displaying the above three ingredients, can be regarded as at Par. There is immense scope of improvement in Political Spokesmanship in Odisha.
