Call Governor Cuomo to urge him to stop the gas storage facility proposed for Seneca Lake: 866-739-8816. Dear Friends, As I write this appeal to my fellow New Yorkers, I am listening to the birds chirping alongside a 4.2 trillion gallon source of fresh water known as Seneca Lake, located in the Finger Lakes Region. With seven states declaring that they are running out of water, I feel even more strongly that we must protect this vital resource. But Houston-based Crestwood has other plans for us. The company intends to turn this world-class tourist destination into what they call a “Gas Storage and Transport Hub for the Northeast. This, despite a huge public outcry from people who recognize that our region has a growing, sustainable economy based on agriculture, wine, and tourism. This, despite the fact that there are faults running through the depleted, un-lined salt caverns slated for storing fracked gas. This, despite the fact that the lake is a drinking water resource for over 100,000 people. Even when we ban fracking in New York, Seneca Lake could become a major element of a massive build-out of infrastructure necessary to support fracking elsewhere. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has already approved the first part of this project. But Governor Cuomo can shut these projects down.
