Frog Boys It was March 26th, 1991 and local election day in Daegu, South Korea. Five boys (ages 9-13) decided to visit Mount Waryong nearby to catch some frogs, but never returned. Their disappearance became national news and President Roh Tae-woo even sent 300,000 officers to aid in the search which was even shown on live television. The search was nationwide but they found nothing. People thought they had run away for an adventure, some thought they were kidnapped and some even thought aliens abducted them. A movie called “Frog Boys” was released that urged the boys to return home but nothing came of any of that until 11 years later… A man picking acorns on the mountainside discovered pieces of clothing and bones belonging to those 5 boys. The bodies were huddled up together when found so the police chalked it up to being death from hypothermia even though they were only 2km from home and knew the mountain side extremely well. Their skulls also had holes in them and there were shell casings all around the bodies. The family urged for a proper investigation and they got one. Investigation showed that they had been tied up, their heads had been hit with a heavy blunt object, and buried in haste. There was even evidence that suggested the murder could have been planned. People also find it strange that the boys were found so close to home even after the area was searched over 500 times by officers and experts. The statute of limitations expiered on this case, so even if they find who murdered them, by Korean law, they can’t prosecute anyone for the crime. Even after 23 years, this crime remains unsolved. :E.X.
