From 1946, January 26 was known as Australia Day in all states. However, the public holiday was moved to the Monday nearest to January 26 to create a long weekend. Since 1994, the Australia Day public holiday has been on January 26 in all states and territories. The anniversary of the first permanent European settlement in Australia is not a cause for celebration for all citizens. Australians First Nations or Aboriginal people often feel that the celebrations on Australia Day excludes them and our culture, which was thriving for thousands of years before the arrival of the First Fleet. The meaning and significance of Australia Day has evolved over time. Unofficially, or historically, the date has also been variously named Anniversary Day, Invasion Day, Foundation Day, To me as I reflect on today with all of the above in mind, I turn my mind to Leigh Creek and how happy my parents and oldest sister and 2 brothers would have been welcoming in a baby girl to the family. So for me I wish myself Happy Birthday on this day 26th January 🎉🎈and Im very thankful and blessed to be born into a loving, secure and strong family filled with culture, music, language and blessings of all my Elders that have shared with me their journeys, thoughts and reflections of the past and aspirations for the future....Let it Be...
