From 1967-1971 I lived in St Louis missouri in a area called LaClede Town it was a fabulous place to grow up. Those were some of the best years of my childhood because of living in LaClede. We had people from all over the world living there so i had friends from Burma, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and a lot of other places around the world. So it really saddens me to see whats happening in Ferguson and St Louis with the riots and protesting there and in other cities. While surfing videos tonight on youtube I came across the video I posted below about race wars in St Louis with looting, riots, homes and businesses being destroyed and burned down and people being killed, but it wasnt in 2014 it was in 1917. I never heard a thing about that race riot when i attended school in St Louis. From Missouri we moved to Oklahoma and I was taught some of the native American history of Oklahoma, a very small amount considering the wealth of Native American history that exists, When I was in school in Tulsa I had heard about the race riot in 1921, but that part of Tulsas history was made to seen as if was just minor protests, not the real destruction that actually happened. It was as if it was in the history book only because it had to be mentioned at all. Schools dont teach Americas true history, the good, the bad, and the ugly, which we have an abundance of all three .I dont know how many other riots there have been in our history and where but I believe that they should be discussed openly and sensibly with respect for all opinions and thoughts even if they are different than our own . Ive always heard that people who dont remember their past are doomed to repeat it, and thats what were doing repeating our racial problems from the past. Sooner or later it rears its ugly head and boils over into riots, with people destroying things, and unfortunately deaths. Eventually something happens that puts a halt to the fighting and destruction for right then. Its never really solved though just pushed under the rug again until the next time a group of people feel marginalized. whatever nationality that may be, all of them have had their moment in that spotlight. What are children that are seeing these riots and brutality learning? its sure not peace and love, not coexistence, acceptance or even tolerance of your fellow man. All its teaching them is more fear and hatred and mistrust. There has got to be solutions to the problems we keep facing time and time again without people resorting to violence. But we will never find that solution if we keep pushing the same problem under the rug it only gets higher and higher until it explodes again. How many more times do we have to keep repeating the same cycle before we finally get tired of it and really search for solutions? We cant afford to wait for the government to do something to change things, the price of that could be our freedom. I believe there are more people in the world that want to get along than people who want division. More people who dont care about the color of your skin or where you came from than t people that chose to continue to hate. We cant begin to heal as a nation until we begin to talk instead of fight. At the end of the day we all want to go home and feel safe and secure and live without fear. You can be a part of the problem and continuing the cycle or be a part of the the solution and healing . Which are you going to chose? Take time to speak to someone that you wouldnt ordinarily talk to or spend time with try to find a commonality, you might be surprised at what it turns out to be. https://youtube/watch?v=7lZPGL1u0XI
