From 9 a.m. until long after sundown Saturday, blues and laughter poured from the courtyard at Sealy Flats downtown. This year’s International Blues Day included a shrimp boil lunch, a live radio show on KCSA 95.7 FM and dozens of musicians. J.T. Coldfire ended the night’s festivities. Angela Halfmann, president of the San Angelo Blues Society, said the event added a special “women in blues” section. Artists chose songs from Bessie Smith’s “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out” recorded in 1929 to Susan Tedeschi’s “Hurt So Bad” from 1998. Tunes were played in chronological order, and the society’s historian wrote a narrative from the women’s submissions. Gallery link below. -KG
