From Amanda Palmer s #theartofasking People working in the arts engage in street combat with The Fraud Police on a daily basis, because much of our work is new and not readily or conventionally categorized. When you’re an artist, nobody ever tells you or hits you with the magic wand of legitimacy. You have to hit your own head with your own handmade wand. And you feel stupid doing it. There’s no “correct path” to becoming a real artist. You might think you’ll gain legitimacy by going to university, getting published, getting signed to a record label. But it’s all bullshit, and it’s all in your head. You’re an artist when you say you are. And you’re a good artist when you make somebody else experience or feel something deep or unexpected. This is true for every one who is pursuing living true... And its vastly true for how Ive had a constant inner struggle never feeling good enough as a practitioner of healing... I think many wrestle with this battle with legitimacy... I hope to share more of whats helped me own legitimacy moment by moment... But Id be a fool to say that battle has been won. Hardly. Its won each second i show up and face down the lie any of us can be separate from Love for a moment... Its won every second I say yes to taking a new case and am willing to help another stand for his or her oneness... Its won every second I say yes to living the law of Spirit... Each one of us can win the battle of legitimacy as a woman as a man as a human heart each moment you nod and are willing to keep on... But may you celebrate if you have to shed all and start again or start anew... May that never scare you... Its all thoughts anyway... May the fear of the seeming unknown thrill you more than staying stuck in same old same old... Deep heartfelt hope you are winning this battle today:) Huggabuggas Tre ~ (Seen first on Brain Pickings )
