From Barça outcasts to FIFA hostages? - TopicsExpress

From Barça outcasts to FIFA hostages? Martín Montoya and Sergi Roberto may end up bearing the brunt of Barcelonas dispute with FIFA over the signing of minors. The pair are unhappy with the bit-part roles theyve played this season under Luis Enrique and are both seriously considering their futures. The snag? The two-window transfer ban preventing Barça from bringing players in may lead the Azulgranas to block any exits. Next month the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will decide whether to uphold FIFAs punishment. The club lodged a fast-track appeal and a hearing has been set for the first week of December, so a final ruling will be issued before the end of 2014. If the CAS doesnt overturn or reduce the sanction, it looks highly unlikely that Barcelona will allow any players - however lowly they figure in the managers plans - to leave permanently in January, as they will be unable to sign replacements or strengthen the squad until 2016. One possible way around this would be a loan move until the end of the season, allowing the players in question to get some football under their belts and then return in June. It is believed that FIFA would not object to such a solution.
