From Billings / School District 2 - Concussion Management Compliance Dylan Steigers Protection of Youth Athletes Act Dear Parents - This past year our Montana State Legislature passed SB0112 called the DYLAN STEIGERS PROTECTION OF YOUTH ATHLETES ACT. This bill addresses the dangers of concussions and sets a standard of care that must be met by every school district. This bill requires the Montana HIgh School Association and every school district to adopt a formal policy on concussion management. Our district is currently updating our policy and procedures to align with this state law. As part of the MHSA policy, a Student-Athlete & Parent/Legal Guardian Concussion Statement Form must be signed before the student-athlete is allowed to participate in any practice. That form, along with a concussion fact sheet for parents and a fact sheet for players is available by clicking here or by clicking on the graphic below. Please read these fact sheets carefully. If your son or daughter, middle school or high school, will be participating in a school-sponsored activity, please complete this form. Also, have your son or daughter complete the form, both of you sign it and return it to the activities office of your home school prior to the start of the first practice. We cannot allow any student-athlete to participate in practice until this form is properly completed, signed and turned in, so please do so prior to that first practice.
