From Bimbia to Limbe The tourist city known today as Limbe is preparing the celebration of its 104 years of existence this coming December. This recalls to mind the various changes this village has undergone to become one of the most beautiful cities of Cameroon. Memory lane, Bimbia was the name of this locality, ruled by King “William”. This local chief controlled trade between the Europeans and the indigenes of the hinterlands. As a middleman, he saw his importance grow to higher heights and took a British name, thus KING WILLIAM. The appellation BIMBIA is the original name of the sea side village which later on was re-baptised VICTORIA by Alfred Saker in memory of the then Queen Victoria of Britain. With the ascension of Paul Biya in power in 1982, the town was re-baptised LIMBE, name taken from the river Limbe which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. For a century now, Limbe has keep its splendor and as it celebrates its 100 years of existence in the forthcoming December, we wish her a happy birthday in advance.
