From Binham Priory, we went on Warham Camp. This spectacular Iron Age fort is well known as a place where rare and beautiful chalkland wildflowers abound. At this time of year, we knew we would see scabious, ladys bedstraw and harebells in glorious drifts so we took our coffee flask and sat for a while on the inner mound in the late afternoon sunshine. Of course, when its double circular mounds and ditches were new they would not have been covered in wildflowers. They would have been a shocking white from the exposed chalk; a striking feature in the landscape. But were certain that the Iceni people would have known the wildflowers we see today, and have made use of their medicinal and magical properties. Even today, Warham Camp is extremely striking in the landscape. Do go and visit if you get the chance!
