From Brian McNett The perversity of capitalism is that people are paid in inverse proportion to their value to society. Work is not rewarded. Money is rewarded. We are taught to actively resent those whose jobs work to our social benefit while channeling our own efforts into work which essentially does nothing. The height of this perversity is that work which actively harms society carries less stigma than work for the public good. We are told that striking dock workers are a bad thing. Striking auto workers are a bad thing. Striking teachers are a bad thing. Those people have jobs which will cause society to grind to a halt if they dont do them! HOW DARE THEY ASK FOR GOOD PAY AND PENSIONS? This is a work regime perfectly suited to maintaining the power of finance capital. It was not designed, but evolved through trial and error over the course of a century. Because we put no conscious effort into creating a society which fairly compensates work, we dont have a society which does so.
