From Clemency for Don Siegelman International Solidarity . This song is neither in English nor in French. Believe it or not, the real title isnt even Ma Belle Amie. Thats just what the real words sound like, and its how they marketed this. The real words to this song are entirely in Frisian, and VERY CLEVER: . The song appears to be Ma Belle Amie, by The Tee Set. . It appears to begin: Ma Belle Amie. You were the child of the sun and the sky and the deep blue sea. . Wait a minute! . These are, possibly, the actual words - in Frisian.... the closest language to English. . Click on the video... . MAR BELLE OERE MEAR... by Dy Deasjitte. . Mar Belle oere mear Jo oer a jild oft ea sunde en diske aaie en died ear fluitsje. . Try this: Lea de belle sa rinne. Lea de fersin. Foar dy mann efter hy moai searje... . Heard in English, this appears to be a song of typical female-worship, or as British social scientist Eric John Dingwall phrased it, the gyneolatry of Americans. . In Frisian, the meaning of words which are identical to what the typical American hears phoenetically, are totally different. . Sometimes, Petrus Tetteroo appears to be mumbling something unclear in English.... or occasionally in French. But in Frisian, the words are a little clearer... and a LOT more startling! . This is a song about a guy who is, by his own admission, very handsome... (presumably Peter Tetterroo himself, the lead singer and writer of the song) who has fallen in love with an older woman of low moral character; and he is trying to convince her, through appealing to her sense of self-interest, to change her ways and to become virtuous, and to devote herself to him. (Thomas Paine said something on the subject in Common Sense and the Crisis; so this is a very time-honored theme; and very cleverly rendered in Mar Belle Oere Mear.) . How many years has this song been well-known in the United States? OVER 40 YEARS! And PRACTICALLY ALL of the people who have ever heard this in the USA - and probably in Britain AND THE NETHERLANDS TOO (where West Frisian is only spoken by about 120,000 people) have perceived this song NOT as being what it actually is, and not in its true meaning, but in a way which conforms to what they themselves know and are able to understand within their own comfort zone. And through that prism, the song is not understood for what it really is. . It is very difficult to reach out toward the truth BEYOND ones own range of knowledge and ones own comfort zone and ones own set worldviews, which is why groups like CLEMENCY FOR DON SIEGELMAN INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY and FREE DON SIEGELMAN! and Free Scott Ritter and SHULER STAND 1-A and the 52-part Pardon and Reprieve groups and the Committee of 37 Peace Initiative... . EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE. . It is why there is a need for groups like this. . President Obama spoke of hope and change. . There cannot be a meaningful change toward what is most necessary unless there is a change of world-view toward what is also most necessary, and a willingness to acknowledge past errors - not only the past errors of others (which is fairly easy) but ones own past errors in running with the crowd. Goed Ingelsk is goed Frysk. (Good English is good Frisian.) In other words, . . Go ahead: click on the video, wait 5 seconds to skip to the song, then scroll up to the top and compare what you THINK you are hearing in English, with the words you see right in front of you in West Frisian!
