From Corbett for Governor website, Tom Corbett admits he taxed Marcellus Shale. Ed Rendell never imposed a Marcellus Shale tax. I heard a Democratic candidate for Governor say Tom Corbett isn’t taxing the Marcellus Shale drillers. Is that accurate? Nothing could be further from the truth. So far, the Marcellus natural gas industry has paid Pennsylvania over $2.1 billion in state taxes. The drillers have also paid over $400 million to local communities to help with critical local projects. What Tom Corbett has refused to do is over-tax the Marcellus drillers, because he knows it would force this critical job creating industry to simply pick up and move to other states with a more favorable tax climate. Today, over 200,000 good-paying Pennsylvania jobs are supported by the rapidly growing natural gas industry. And Tom Corbett wants to protect those jobs, not kill them. Unfortunately, liberal Democratic candidates like Tom Wolf and Allyson Schwartz are calling for a massive tax increase on the natural gas industry. This will cripple this important Pennsylvania industry, as well as lead to higher energy costs for hard-working Pennsylvania families.
