From Counties Manukau: 30 September 2014 Attn All Media Sonny Bill Williams will join the Counties Manukau Steelers on Monday 6 October. It has been confirmed that Williams will play for the Steelers in the remainder of their round robin ITM Cup matches. His first game for the Steelers will be against Auckland at ECOLight Stadium on Wednesday 8 October and then he will wear the red, black and white again the following Sunday in the Tasman v Steelers match in Blenheim. Counties Manukau CEO Andrew Maddock said “This is another exciting chapter for Counties Manukau Rugby and we are rapt that an athlete of Sonny Bill William’s caliber has chosen to join the Steelers.” “It is great news for our fans, sponsors and Union that he will play ITM Cup this season when he was not expected to join us till next year. This just shows how dedicated he is to immersing himself back into rugby and gaining the respect of his new team and supporters.” Sonny Bill Williams was part of the 2011 World Cup winning All Blacks, the 2011 Investec Super Rugby Champion Chiefs side, the 2011 ITM Cup winning Canterbury side and a 2013 NRL Grand Final winner.
