From Dawn Westcott about Liberty training: MANAGING EGO & ADRENALIN in HORSE TRAINING/PLAY: We had this video before but its descriptive of this concept. Two of the key things to manage in Liberty work are Ego and Adrenalin. How many of you can identify when your Ego is talking - either when youre working with a horse or dealing with people? Whether teaching or learning? (although both of these go together! ) Or when its Adrenalin creating you and the horses movement, not just Energy? How perceptive are you at recognising the layers of Ego - from when its helpful and giving you that boost to achieve more, to when its preventing you from truly listening to your horse - or to someone? And what examples can you think of when Ego &/or Adrenalin are influencing a training session or interaction? In a good way or in a not so good way? Ill just throw an initial thought in here - I suspect that when the human is loud ie, laughing and explaining themselves while working with a horse, Mr Ego is playing a significant role in the session - often causing Miss Adrenalin to rise in the horse as he realises the human is not communicating in the present moment, through the true self, and really listening. From my experience, that forms a barrier to communication with horses - whether my Ego likes me to admit that or not
