From Day one of #NWKPoetryMonth 31/31 writing challenge theroot/blogs/the_grapevine/2014/10/would_you_want_your_kids_mentored_by_paula_deen_steve_harvey_thinks_so.html I am Not Steve Harvey My mentoring camps will be counsel by color scraped of whitewash. Their redemption, if sought, will come from commitment to telling their tales so children soften the urge to write them with their ink-skinned bodies. Not all will be dismayed, choosing instead to retool the how over the what of their stories. And still, these leaders move on, their presence relatable, at ease with the danger taught to exist in brown knuckle unclenched. No mentor will hold the face of a white icon crumpled by their own words, revealed of plantation fetish in their restaurants buttered in her usage of nigger. Turning to the same skin she shuffled into a thing no continent the size of Africa will exist for her comeback. No red lip dance around the truth from me: just because Forgiveness was given so release comes From holding gaseous grudge, does not mean We will trust them with our stage. Our couch. Our audience. Our camps. Our youth. Rebuild your recipes elsewhere, I would tell Ms. Deen. My people, at war, cannot afford young warriors to be lab rats in experimenting revival of relevance.
