From District 9 Vice-President Dear Sisters and Brothers: I - TopicsExpress

From District 9 Vice-President Dear Sisters and Brothers: I want to update you on the latest development in our fight to protect our right to wear and display pro-union messaging on branded apparel, laptops, company vehicles, and on our desks and lockers. This is an action that many of us joined. I’m proud that our members are always ready to stand together and give our all, and I’m happy to report a victory in this important fight. In April 2012, CWA members were disciplined by Pacific & Nevada Bell Telephone, AT&T, their employer, for wearing and displaying pro-union messaging on stickers and buttons, including on employer company trucks, laptops and lockers. About 14 months later, on June 18, 2013, National Labor Relations Board Regional Director Joseph Frankl issued an amended complaint against the Companies for a number of labor law violations related to unfair discipline and threats of discipline. Hearings were held over nine days from September 24 through November 20, 2013, before Administrative Law Judge John McCarrick in Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Wednesday, April 23, I received the attached decision of Judge McCarrick on the important subject, regarding our members right to display pro-union messages.
