He acted up right before the gate opened, was last out but quickly moved into fourth while four wide going into the first turn, three and one-quarter lengths off the lead. Laying third down the backside stalking the leaders, Palace Malice made his move with three-eighths of a mile to go, moving five wide to the lead. Six wide into the stretch, when challenged by Normandy Invasion, Palace Malice proved best in the stretch drawing off to a four and three-quarter length victory. Todays earnings of $240,000 brings his career total to $1,871,135. After the race, jockey Mike Smith said, He is better than last year. The final time for the mile and one-eighth was 1:48 4/5s.
