From Dr. Frank Sibbalds Journal December 1876 SATURDAY 9 Commenced to blow a full gale from the N.W. about 4 A.M. Notwithstanding this ice formed rapidly in the bay on a line with the old wharf. I — ventured out all day as my bronchitis was troublesome. No one went to Sutton. The gale abated about 9 P.M. Sunday 10th. Wind changed to S.E. during the night. Ther. 9 below zero to 10 above. Service at home in the forenoon. Minnie, Agnes & myself walked to Rotherwood in the afternoon. Commenced to snow in the ev’g. MONDAY 11 Cloudy cold day with East’ly wind. Ther. 1 below zero to 10 Paget’s knee no worse, Inflamation confined to the ligaments around the knee cap. My bronchitis was rather bad so I limited my walks to going twice over to the Pagets. Dave went to Sutton & brought back Monday’s mail. Agnes walked as far as Rotherwood. TUESDAY 12 Fine day. Ther. 9 to 28. Wind West’ly. A little snow fell in the forenoon. — — — better than expected, bad at that as James Barnard & Miss Maggie Lyall were married. Agnes drove Minnie into Sutton. Fanny drove in & brought back Aunt Kitty. I walked as far as the church in the forenoon & to Rotherwood in the afternoon. Mail arrived per Cunard Str.[steamer] WEDNESDAY 13 Fine mild day. Wind West’ly, Ther.22 to 38. Agnes & myself walked to Rotherwood & back before dinner. Fanny drove Tom into Sutton. I walked to the bridge & back. Mr. Graham tuned the Piano. Letters received from Lettie. Another day’s threshing. I wrote to Georgie including order on Alexander & Stark for $221.- , $121. - being the amt of Hugh’s Ch. for Annie. THURSDAY 14 Fine day. Wind W.S.W. Ther. 22 to 34. Occasional glimpses of sun shine. Ice gradually diappearing from this side of the lake. Agnes drove Aunt Kitty to Sutton & Ainslie Hill & had Peter roughed. I walked to Rotherwood before dinner. Uncle Will a little out of sorts. I walked to the bridge before tea. Came on to blow a gale from the N.W. about 8 P.M. accompanied with snow. FRIDAY 15 Blew a strong gale during the night, almost a calm in the morning. Wind shifted round to the S.W. and blew a strong gale in the afternoon with drifting snow I walked to Rotherwood before dinner. Paget drove into Sutton & brought back the mail. Cole came and put the stove pipes in order. I walked as far as the bridge in the afternoon. Received a letter from Jack Clunie. 11 P.M. still blowing a gale from the West.
