From Estela Wilderness Education, LLC: While researching in Norway, I came upon this exhibit at the Oslo Cultural Museum of arctic people. Take note of the placement of the notch. Rather than being to the side of the board, the notch is made lengthwise. This creates 2 coals for each run of the spindle. Also note, the wrong stringing of the spindle. The spindle should be wrapped to run to the outside of the bow string. I gave this setup a run last year in Sweden. It is significantly different than a standard side notch bow drill. Give this one a shot your next time playing with fire.
