From Family First - "Most members of parliament these days are either ex-union officials, political staffers or lawyers. Family First Party Senate candidate Bob Day says it was to Australia’s detriment that most of our politicians have never had a job in the real world. “They go to university, get a job working for a politician or a union and then become politicians themselves. The disastrous results of their lack of real world experience is there for all to see. “Now more than ever, Australia needs parliamentarians who understand how markets work, why investment decisions are made, how private sector workplaces function and how real jobs are created. Whether it’s mining, farming, manufacturing, tourism or small business, anything not based on economic reality is doomed to failure. Regrettably, the politicians of today have no idea what economic reality means. “Whilst the rest of us are out earning a living and working in the real world making things, growing things and building things, these 20 and 30 olds are working their way up the political ladder ingratiating themselves and gaining the patronage of the power brokers in their respective parties. It’s a power game to them. Once they become members of parliament they don’t listen to anyone outside of politics. “Before deciding who to vote for, I would strongly recommend voters inquire if their local MP or candidate has ever had a proper job!”
