From Goshens Sesquicentennial Year of 1981: ***Goshen Plumbing & Heating - Opened in 1956 at 206 W. Lincoln. The team in 1964 included Delmar Yoder, Cecil Barnes, Luman Troyer, Sharon Bender, Don Adams and Elmer Stutzman. ***GHS boys golf - Although it didnt become an official varsity sport at GHS until 1964, there were some club teams in earlier days. In 1940 Don Blanding coached a team which featured Bob Priser, Bob Lindhorn, Pete Bickel, Art Huber, Russ Wortinger, Jim Howard and Howard Rohn. Matches were played at South Shore in Syracuse. ***1938 Kroger Softball Team - Howard Elliott, Ike Roth, Mark Roth, Harold Hartzler, LaMar Leer, Bob Salisbury, Bill Fiedeke, Jim Hoogenboom, Weldon Eyer, Phil Alwine, Ernie Chiddister, Dick Elliott, Bud Troyman. ***Bowling - One of the first facilities in town was upstairs at 130 N. Main, managed by Ray Carlson in the 1930s and Emmett Pietro in 1940. There was also Goshen Recreation Club upstairs at 118 N. Main. Wood-Ro Recreation opened in 1940 at 610 E. Madison. Among operators were Jacob Rohrer, Charles Hess, Burdette Frick, Roy Rogers and Theo Seifert. Wood-Ro became Shamrock Lanes in the 1950s with Emanuel Egner and Sanford Yoder. Don and George Cart also had bowling at 120 E. Lincoln. Playdium Lanes opened in the 1940s at Hotel Goshen, Clinton and Main. Operators were Art Weber, Alvin Troyer, Louis Bosco, Tom Gaskill and Dick Posthuma. Playdium became King Pin Lanes in 1967 under Don Schrock and Ron Scherck, then Bill Green and Harry Speicher. Maple City Bowl opened in 1964 on West Pike Street. Al Troyer, Bob Nusbaum and Rex Bills were then directors with Paul Elijah taking over during the 1970s. Ron Everingham bowled Goshens first perfect 300 game at Maple City on Dec. 19, 1974. And he bowled his latest earlier this week - 40 years later. Happy 50th Anniversary to Maple City Bowl.
