From Greg Manahan, one of our best citizen journalists: Naomi, I just spoke to me friends from Khuzaa. Theyre still stuck in Khan Younis. Any attempts to get back to the south east is met with lethal sniper fire from Israeli soldiers still on the ground. Two of the youngsters that I reckoned saved my life in 2012 by walking with me in a group of bubbly and giddy kids in the dark as a drone scanned us from above were killed in the bombings in Khuzaa. The were both from the Abu Rideh clan with whom I was guest while there. My friends sister in law had her 2 month old baby killed whilst fleeing the town beside Khuzaa, Abasin when they were hit by falling debris thrown up by a 500lb bomb dropped by an F16. Im not giving names as I dont want to create targets, this is something weve been warned against by various NGOs. We dont know if the house where I was staying is still standing or the status of the missing. One of your threads mentioned the decomposing bodies there and Im the death toll will be certainly much higher then the current official figures. You posted about evidence of summary executions. This happened before in Khuzaa. When Shalit was captured the Israelis came across the border into Khuzaa and rounded up all men from the age of 15 to 65. A local doctor who had very good English explained to me in an interview that one of his sons didnt leave their house. The solders marched in and he heard two to three gun shots. That was the last he saw or heard of his son. The remainder of the men were marched in lines into Israel, stripped naked and made face each other by female soldiers. Half were released many of the others are still in Israeli jails. Now if these men are released theyll be returning to rubble. Apparently Netanyahu has just released a statement asking the international community to rebuild Gaza. Very big of him after destroying it.
