From Harris County - September 20, 2013 Heavy Rainfall Expected Through Saturday A weather system entering our area this afternoon brings the potential for widespread heavy rainfall to much of Harris County. The National Weather Service forecasts that rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are possible with isolated areas receiving 4-7 inches. The primary threat from this system will be street flooding caused by run-off and rises in area bayous. Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard. Click here for important flood safety tips. Residents are encouraged to monitor local media and National Weather Service for the latest forecasts. Various watches and warnings may be issued throughout the day and into the evening. The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) will issue updates as needed though Harris County Alerts and our website, readyharris.org. We will also provide more frequent updates through Facebook and Twitter. HCOHSEM is monitoring this developing weather situation with our partners at NWS, the Harris County Flood Control District and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
