From Human Rights in Childbirth: You could call it a brief, or you - TopicsExpress

From Human Rights in Childbirth: You could call it a brief, or you could call it a manifesto. No means no, on the street, in the bedroom, and on the Labor and Delivery ward. Courts need to inform doctors and hospitals that informed consent isnt just a signature on a form or a lofty ethical principle, it is an enforceable legal right, and that right isnt suspended during childbirth. This Fall Human Rights in Childbirths Hermine Hayes Kline worked with a team of US lawyers, Deborah Fisch, Julie Cantor, Vee Borek, and Shandanette Em to write an amicus curiae brief on womens right to informed consent and refusal in childbirth, presenting the court with dozens of stories from across the US that humanize and illuminate the statistics regarding non-consented interventions in maternity care. We filed this brief in the New York case of Rinat Dray. The full story, intro to the brief, and links to the full brief and appendix are here: humanrightsinchildbirth/amicusbriefpart1/
