From J. Oswald Sanders powerful book (through chapter four thus far) on Spiritual Leadership: Spiritual goals can be achieved only by people who use spiritual methods. How our agencies and churches would change if leaders were spirit filled! The secular mind and heart, however gifted and personally charming has no place in the leadership of the church. Oh, I lament how far our agencies have moved from true spiritual leadership and how weve moved into MARKETING churches. For example, many of our existing Southern Baptist Churches have changed their name, removing Baptist from their name in order to MARKET themselves. If Jesus visited our mission boards, our conventions, etc. would he approve of the M.BA approach to evangelism and church work? Would he approve of the manner in which I lead our local congregation? Spiritual leadership happens when people get spiritual-- seeking the things that are above-- setting out with the intention of honoring and pleasing God above all else.
