From James M Vickers FDR did this thing called the REA, meaning Rural electrification Association. Basically it was a jobs program, that was government supplemented, that ran power lines where electric companies figured it wasnt profitable. Of course not only did the companies make more, but new recipients of electricity, were then put in new markets for clocks, and lights, and other things run with electricity, where were then produced here, thus creating even more jobs. It is as any program is, especially when we make the products here, amplified in its jobs producing effect, extending in the private sector. It demonstrates how the government and private industry working together, can make things better for us all! We should have a government assisted program to run fiber-optics into cities and local areas, to boost speed to such an extent, that this wont make a difference. Fiber extends into Gbps range, often times, while local cable companies, on their HIGHEST, most EXPENSIVE tiers, run at about 100. Most hit from 25-50 Mbps. Routers on the other hand, are already up to 1.2 Gbps or more, for a couple of hundred dollars. Equipment is way ahead of infrastructure in other words. We need to implement such a program to build wireless in cities all over the U.S., perhaps offering a base-rate for subscribers to defer some of the costs.
