From James Patterson on @march against monsanto if you want to educate yourself about GMOs/Monsanto *FOR ANYONE NEW TO THIS ISSUE THAT IS CRUCIAL TO OUR SURVIVAL* G.M.O.(Genetically Modified Organism) food is created by chemical companies in order to survive the excess spraying of the toxic herbicides & pesticides that they sell. Natural food dies when it is sprayed with the same amount of herbicides & pesticides that are being used on GMO crops. Regardless of being convicted & fined numerous times by courts around the world for false advertising about the safety of their products...these chemical companies continue to false advertise. They continue to claim that their GMO products use less pesticides & herbicides & will give more of a yield in order to get farmers to sign contracts with them. When in reality, there has been a tremendous increase in the amount of herbicides & pesticides being used & they are not giving farmers a greater yield. Furthermore, there are many scientific peer reviewed studies that prove the toxicity of these herbicides & pesticides to humanity, animals, & our environment. Some people assume that the safety issues of these products are being addressed by groups such as the FDA, USDA, & EPA. However, due to many years of well documented campaign contributions, these chemical companies are purchasing their way into the decision making positions on the FDA, USDA, & EPA. Thus, the chemical companies are approving the safety of their own products. Due to the knowledge of this information, 64 countries thus far have banned or have implemented required labeling laws on all food containing GMOs. In 2013, about 1 million people in 400 cities and 50 countries around the world took a non-violent stand against the business practices of these chemical companies in the March Against Monsanto. Monsanto is the worlds largest producer of GMOs and pesticides & herbicides. Already in 2014 in the US, there are more than 60 active bills in 23 states requiring labeling or prohibiting genetically engineered foods. Vermont has become the 1st state to pass a required labeling law of all GMO food. Connecticut & Maine have passed similar laws that will not go into effect until neighboring states pass the same law. In Europe, due to non-violent activism, people have become aware of how toxic GMOs are to our health & sustainability. So Monsanto has stopped their production of GMO seeds there & are only producing conventional seeds. This is why we continue to gather & non-violently raise awareness. It is time for all of these chemical companies to realize that they cannot lie to us & poison us for their selfish profit. It is also time for all of humanity to overcome our fear, selfishness, & egos...in order to live with LOVE for One Another. We can & will communicate & become self-sufficient & sustainable. At each gathering we all have an opportunity to network our contact information & to work together to implement organic community gardens everywhere & to share the yields that are produced from this amazing work. We all deserve a better world than what we currently have & the children deserve to grow up in a sustainable world where they have their basic human needs without being poisoned. Thank you for being alive & doing your part in this beautiful time of non-violent change...you are appreciated & needed~ One World, One Human Family, One Love...Namaste healthyliving.msn/nutrition/the-13-grossest-things-youre-eating#6 globalresearch.ca/genetic-engineering-companies-promised-reduced-pesticide-use-but-gmo-crops-have-led-to-a-25-increase-in-herbicide-use/5366371 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22331240 globalresearch.ca/monsanto-roundup-the-impacts-of-glyphosate-herbicide-on-human-health-pathways-to-modern-diseases/5342520 ecowatch/2014/02/27/monsantos-roundup-found-in-75-of-air-and-rain-samples/ sustainablepulse/2014/04/06/worlds-number-1-herbicide-discovered-u-s-mothers-breast-milk/#.U0y6jCIo7IU gmofreeusa.org/gmos-are-top/gmo-science/glyphosate-studies/ *FALSE ADVERTISING* In 1996, the New York Times reported that: Dennis C. Vacco, the Attorney General of New York, ordered the company to pull ads that said Roundup was safer than table salt and practically nontoxic to mammals, birds and fish. The company withdrew the spots, but also said that the phrase in question was permissible under E.P.A. guidelines.[276] In 1999, Monsanto was condemned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for making confusing, misleading, unproven and wrong claims about its products over the course of a £1 million advertising campaign. The ASA ruled that Monsanto had presented its opinions as accepted fact and had published wrong and unproven scientific claims.[277] Monsanto responded with an apology and claimed it was not intending to deceive and instead did not take sufficiently into account the difference in culture between the UK and the USA in the way some of this information was presented.[278] In 2001, French environmental and consumer rights campaigners brought a case against Monsanto for misleading the public about the environmental impact of its herbicide Roundup, on the basis that glyphosate, Roundups main ingredient, is classed as dangerous for the environment and toxic for aquatic organisms by the European Union. Monsantos advertising for Roundup had presented it as biodegradable and as leaving the soil clean after use. In 2007, Monsanto was convicted of false advertising and was fined 15,000 euros. Monsantos French distributor Scotts France was also fined 15,000 euros. Both defendants were ordered to pay damages of 5,000 euros to the Brittany Water and Rivers Association and 3,000 euros to the CLCV (Consommation Logement Cadre de vie), one of the two main general consumer associations in France.[279][280] Monsanto appealed and the court upheld the verdict; Monsanto appealed again to the French Supreme Court, and in 2009 it also upheld the verdict.[281] In August 2012, a Brazilian Regional Federal Court ordered Monsanto to pay a $250,000 fine for false advertising. In 2004, advertising that related to the use of GM soya seed, and the herbicide glyphosate used in its cultivation, claimed it was beneficial to the conservation of the environment. The federal prosecutor maintained that Monsanto misrepresented the amount of herbicide required and stated that there is no scientific certainty that soybeans marketed by Monsanto use less herbicide. The presiding judge condemned Mary Robinson Britney Martiny Fuk Monsanto) and called the advertisement abusive and misleading propaganda. The prosecutor held that the goal of the advertising was to prepare the market for the purchase of genetically modified soybean seed (sale of which was then banned) and the herbicide used on it, at a time when the approval of a Brazilian Biosafety Law, enacted in 2005, was being discussed in the country.
