From Jason- lately I have been reading Edgar Lee Masters SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY. Of course it was required reading for Illinois college students but I really didnt get it back then. Now with some years under my belt I can truly appreciate the genius of it Interesting, Masters never again came even close to the brilliance of SPA try as he would for the rest of his life. During my last sojourn through Central Illinois I travelled the area in which the book was set, including Masters home town of Petersburg Illinois, which was laid out/surveyed by none other than a very young Abe Lincoln! . Attached is a photo of his house and of the last remaining iron bridge over the Spoon River. I had canoed under the bridge growing up. It is now almost falling into the river.The approaches are washed in and collapsed. I doubt I will remain standing much longer. I absolutely love old bridges like this. Every year there are less and less of them.
