From Julie: Is it important for your child to meet certain criteria cognitively or otherwise before going to intensive feeding therapy? My son is 2.5 years, but very delayed physically and cognitively. He just started to imitate 4 things. No real communication, even non-verbal. He has no wants or desires. He has nothing that he considers to be punishment or reward. He is probably more like a 6 month old. I cant imagine what they could possibly do to get him to open his mouth. He took water with a straw cup up until 2 months ago. Nothing goes in his mouth but the occasional finger.
