From Kiplinger: While Republicans don’t have a clear presidential front-runner for 2016… They do have a deep bench of rising stars in state capitals around the U.S., including state Rep. Marilinda Garcia (N.H.), House Speaker Beth Harwell (Tenn.) and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (Wis.). Other GOPers to watch: Mia Love of Utah. She’ll be the first black Republican woman in Congress if she wins election this fall. Pete Peterson, Calif. secretary of state hopeful. And Will Weatherford, House speaker in Fla. He’s term-limited in the legislature but is seen as a prospect for higher office. Congress will clear the way for veterans to receive timely medical treatment. But it’ll be expensive. The legislation will allow veterans who can’t be seen at a Veterans Administration facility quickly enough to get care outside the system at the government’s expense. It will also make it easier for top VA officials to be fired. The biggest fight will be over how to pay for the expensive new provisions. The expected cost of non-VA care: $35 billion over three years. That’s a lot of money to cut from other programs. Some in the Senate want an emergency relief designation, meaning the costs don’t have to be offset by other budget cuts. The House disagrees.
