From Klamath Sustainable Communities Mushroom Cultivation & Application Symposium November 1, 2014, Klamath Falls Internationally-recognized mushroom and fungus educator Peter McCoy and Radical Mycology have added a stop in Klamath Falls to their North American Tour! For one day only, they will be offering presentations and hands-on demonstrations on using mushrooms in your garden and beyond. Register now to attend one or all of these offerings by emailing locavorefarms@gmail or calling 530-487-4252. 10:00-Noon: Understanding Mushroom Cultivation A 2-hour presentation and demonstration on the concepts of cultivation, simple ways to produce mushroom spawn kits, and how to design and establish edible and medicinal mushroom gardens. Cost: sliding scale $5-$20; no one turned away for lack of funds. 1pm-4pm: Fungi In The Garden (even in Dryland Environments!) Presentation and demonstration covers the simple and easy ways to implement mushrooms and other fungi into a garden, greenhouse, and farm environment. Cultivation skills as well as design concepts will be demonstrated. Designing fungal installations for the enhanced survival of plants, animals, and other organisms in the arid parts of the world will be covered. Students get their choice of 4 mushroom cultures and a 100 page workbook. Cost: sliding scale $25-$50; some pay-what-you-can and work-trade seats available. 5pm-8pm: Potluck dinner and talk: Radical Mycology: Culture From the Leading Edge Join us for a potluck meal and presentation on the uses of fungi for personal, societal, and ecological healing. This talk blends practical and theoretical insights into the numerous ways that fungi can have a positive impact on the planet and its inhabitants. Concepts of fungal ecology and mushroom cultivation are tied with the means for creating of resilient lifestyles and communities to construct a novel worldview based on the cooperative relationships found throughout the fungal kingdom. Radical Mycology offers a solution-based mycological approach to addressing the world’s most pressing problems in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. Plates, cups, silverware and drinks provided – please bring something delicious to share along with an ingredients list. Talk begins at 6pm.
