From Linda de Vries: Dear Friends, I send this because I am happy and I’d like you to share my happiness with me. My announcement: I am the recipient of the Kennedy Center Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Award for 2014. I am one of six nation-wide. We will each receive a $10,000 grant. Thank you to my dear Gabriel Ortiz, who nominated me and will appear beside me on the Kennedy Center Sondheim website. I hope you’ll read it. Thank you to all my students who continue to pursue excellence in theatre, opera, film, television, art, design, dance, voice, speech, and education from Soho to Noho and Miami to Maui. Thank you to my late husband Jack, one of those who taught me how to teach. Ever a student, my thanks go as well to my current teachers—Linda Brown, Ruth Cruickshank, Stephen Gothold, and Donna Nesheim—and to all you “music makers and dreamers of dreams” who take so much care in all you do.
