From Liu Ming Liu Ming Qi Node Autumn Begins Yin Reverses Yang :: Element: METAL “Stand of Autumn” In Autumn Begins there is the reversal of what the Chinese call “late summer”. At this time autumn qi (particularly in evening/night), which has the character of Dryness, will reverse the lingering damp heat pattern of late summer. It often causes typhoons and tornadoes. During this qi node qi is best at 3pm. Now and then, during the day, practice neigong facing southwest. Do not overexert yourself (or sweat); let the qi move the blood and transform nutrients. Dress lightly (cover well), and stroll about to avoid the damp. Chew well. During the day eat two meals, rest (nap) after lunch, snacks of fruit (pears) are good on hot days. Drink green and flower tea (ju hua) and in the evening enjoy a light savory soup. Vegetarian meals are indicated. Activity should turn from outward to inward – begin to edit and then store what has been accomplished. Continue the cautions of Great Heat. Before bed bucket bathe and go to sleep not long after dark. Do not go about in the evening or by the coast. Rest, relax, travel (inland), exercise (modestly) and do not be exposed to coastal or night winds. What happens when yin begins to take charge? The thing is, yin takes charge through the blossoming of inner power. It has the power of withdrawal and ability to undermine not overcome by force. At first, it does not seem to stop yang’s malignant quality, but working within and under, it causes yang to finally collapse. Working with growing yin is auspicious for the release of harmful heat (poor judgment); working against the growing yin embeds chronic illnesses deeper (hardens ignorance). Fri August 15 – 7th moon/20th day OXBOY/Open “Corralled Horse” The second day of Tai Sui offerings suggest retreat. Take a vacation or sick-leave day. Begin and end the day with incense offerings and bowing. Spend a few hours in meditation. Eat simple vegetarian food. Cancel, postpone and abandon all activity as best you can. A day in retreat is not at all a waste or a hiding gesture today; it is to go where the qi goes. Unplug. Enjoy solitude, silence, self-reflection and the changing of the light in the window. Pay attention to your body as it lets go into an afternoon nap. Be grateful without negotiations. Take a long bath. Before bed, offer incense, let your heart fill up with prayerfulness and gratitude. Let dream be a main event of the day. Spoon-up with your beloved but don’t exchange fluids. To spend the day in compulsive, compromised struggling, trying to make things happen “your way” is very, very harmful. Don’t make art, travel, practice courtship or write letters. Do not start anything. Do not get married or bury the dead. The Stomach and San Jiao channels are open. Yesterdays channel qi story is somewhat resolved, but acupuncture treatments are still inhibited. Medical treatments done today can complicate and harden disharmonies. Surgeries done today will invite scarring and unexpected complications. By contrast, any and all modest exercise, nourishing food and rest will provide healing and even resolve negative ancestral predispositions (genetic). Local spa treatments are auspicious. Sat August 16 – 7th moon/21st day MAIDEN/Shut “Mountain Goat” The third day of Tai Sui offerings deepens the resources found only in retreat. Close down even more than yesterday and you will not regret it. No cell phone, no internet and no entertainment (maybe a bit of instrumental music [no lyrics]). Silence and solitude. There is a chance to let go of some pretty well established self-deception in the configuration of indicators today. Before getting back to progress you can unload issues that will otherwise drag you down later. Consult the oracle. Turn your light in on the building or remodeling of your unspoken values. Stillness is where the movement is really happening, so to speak. Inspiration is there but it will come to you only if you do not look like and inspiration predator. Relax. Do not travel. Funerals done today will make grieving endless and infect several generations with medical problems. Do not dig earth for any reason. Do not give or receive medical treatments. Exhale. Learn about “no”. Sun Aug 16 – 7th moon/21st day VOID/Design “Silver-Fruit Monkey” The last few days leave us all on a hilltop of new perspective. Those who have used the last few days wisely will feel confident from within. The day is about realization and coalition. The remainder of the year is now loaded for remarkable resolution. Don’t jump into anything; indeed it is best to savor the austerity of the last few days with joy. The day commemorates the God of Prosperity and Taishan (East Mountain) both of which represent the rewards and resources (qi, cash, colleagues, ideas and spirit) that are newly acquired. Let the old ways be gone. Feel the exorcism natural to the Tai Sui commemorative. When we are recalibrated we need to not only reboot our qi but also honor our losses (bury the dead). Let the youngest throw the first fistful of earth into the grave. The newness needs strategy more than action. Don’t be preoccupied only with your own progress, observe the broad qi movement operating in the people around you. Welcome new alliances and fresh insights. The hill you stand on (new perspective) is the burial mound of your ancestors (gift). Let dreams show you omens and portents. Keep a close eye on the children (they may be too frisky). Cook a savory soup and delicious home-cooked dinner. Do not sleep with your best friend’s partner (though temptation may be strong). Avoid all but emergency medical treatments. Don’t do business or sign contracts. Stay close to home. The Large Intestine channel is open. It is best to use only foot Liver and Bladder points. Continuing treatment plans may work, but mistakes in diagnosis will be common. Acupuncture is astrologically contraindicated for pregnant moms. Moxabustion is also contraindicated in general. Exercise and rest are still the best medicine. Mon August 18 – 7th moon/23rd day ROOF/Divide “Caged Rooster” The successful jie qi engagement of the last few days now lays open new resources (and particularly new alliances) that can be enjoyed (but not yet spent or leaned on). The steady mound we stood on yesterday is now a ridgepole or roof beam – the situation needs careful consideration. Leadership is a major aspect of successful alliances and today’s qi profile allows for clear insight into strategy as it relates to leadership. Old patterns and hierarchies should be questioned, clarity (even precision) should rule over emotion. Let clarity work naturally – no need for revolution. Popular vote wins the day (group consensus). Back to routines is okay but being tentative is okay as well. The day lends itself to shopping to replace essentials and tools. It is auspicious for repairing and purchasing property. Gardening (cultivating and harvesting) and cutting your hair lead to abundance and prosperity. Traveling to and from familiar places goes well. Home repairs and raising a barn is very auspicious. All group efforts succeed and build trust. Do not travel to strange and far off places (loss, theft). Do not embark on long sea journeys (injury, death at sea). Observe but do not criticize. The Lung channel is open. Medical treatments are on again. It is auspicious to meet a new doctor (develop better rapport) or begin a new treatment series (even new modality). Clearing heat from upper burner and regulating digestion are enhanced. Lung 7 (Kidney 6) is open and very useful from 1-3pm. Use Stomach 36 on all patients. Gentle massage (and cupping) of lower abdomen, pelvic stretches and swimming are particularly useful for general yin harmony. Soup with fresh lotus root is recommended. Tue August 19 – 7th moon/24th day HOUSE/Full “Family Dog” The qi of the day has a trap in it. Go forward with small-minded, selfish or compulsive aggression and your failure will trap you. A stray cinder of unresolved yang is dropped into the lake of growing yin. If you let the growing insights and resources of the last week flourish no such trap arises. It is nevertheless a day of caution on all fronts – caution is not paranoia or fear. What is new and potentially wider and clearer is inherently cautious lest we slip back into old and now clearly disabling patterns. Free of narrow-mindedness all is beneficial. The day invites building, progress with new endeavors and embarking on long journeys. Get together with friends and colleagues and enjoy community. Fengshui adjustments to offices and shops, boundaries and fences are enhanced. Tip for good service, get married and donate time or money to temple building or local social welfare project (today is a City god day = make offerings at city gates and intersections). Thank a good cop. Write a letter of appreciation to a retired mayor or city councilperson. Go to an afternoon Mass, vespers or evening puja. Feel the local connections that make up your every day. Do not isolate yourself. Do not enter retreat. No extreme sports or confrontations. Leave the garden alone. Do not bury the dead. No groundbreaking ceremonies. The Bladder channel is open. Between 9am-1pm Bladder 62 (Small Intestine 3) is open. Massage Bladder 1, Kidney 6, the scalp, shoulders and scapula. Swim 3 laps. Cup the lower back vigorously.
