From Mail Online: Republican Senator John McCain labeled Russia as nothing but a gas station masquerading as a country in a television appearance Sunday where he called out president Obamas disturbing lack of realism in dealing with the crisis in Crimea. Just back from a visit to Ukraine, McCain urged the Obama administration to do more. He called for military assistance to Ukraine, resumption of development of a U.S. missile defense system for Eastern Europe and steps toward NATO membership for Georgia and Moldova. The United States of America has to first of all have a fundamental reassessment of our relationship with Vladimir Putin. No more reset button, McCain told CNNs State of the Union. DJS -- Never mind who is saying it, McCain is on the money here. Obamas reiteratively spouted optimism is blinding him to reality. He needs to realize that the fact that Russia, and even Putin, will pay more for Crimea than theyll ever gain by their behavior, only stops rational people. But Putin not rational, not by 21st century standards. He is certainly a psychopath by his behavior (they are wonderful at charming people and gaining trust when needed, without any real concern for other people -- like many CEOs) and is dangerously close to megalomania. Only prompt, full, and more direct measures are going to stop him. We should have sent a NATO fleet to guard the Ukranians and Tatars, the same rationale Putin used to send Russian troops to the Ukrainian border. Military assistance must sent ASAP. NATO should declare that any invasion into mainland Ukraine is an act of war against NATO. Immediate, complete sanctions should also be imposed by now, not partials and a well see attitude. If there is any doubt about how Putin regards us now, the % yes on the referendum is him spitting in the worlds face; only 58% of Crimeans are ethnic Russians and probably a lot of them do not want this; the other 40% certainly dont.
