From March 14, 1914 - Messrs Rogers and Alexanders livery stable on Race Street caught fire about 7 oclock Sunday morning, from a defective flue, near the roof in the front part of the stable. Considerable headway had been gained, when the flames were seen by Mr. Al W Pedigo and the alarm given. It took fast and furious work on the part of the fire company to check the flames, but this was done, and the stable saved, with much damage to the roof on the front end only. All the horses and vehicles were gotten out, so as to be ready in case the fire was not checked. The loss was covered by insurance.
