Ill preface it with my own opinion on the whole affair, its mine & mine alone, take it or leave it as you wish: Im of 2 minds over the whole PHS scandal... First: anecdotally I do know there was an in crowd culture at the PHS that had been building for some time. Our cousin worked for them in the 90s and left as he saw what he thought was some fairly blatant cronyism creeping into the organization. So, do I think a culture of entitlement crept into PHS? Yes. Combine that with some sloppy bookkeeping and we end up where we are now. Second: The PHS does damn fine work. The feds hate Insite, the Prov. Govt hates the visibly poor (feds too) and Gregor and his minions have a hardon for massive development & gentrification of the DTES. So, of course theyre going to make a HUGE deal out of all of this. And yes, they may well be motivated to exaggerate the problem to suit their own agenda. What I wonder is why they (all levels of Govt.) dont see the need to hold themselves to the same or higher standards. VISION is developer owned, well probably never know how much backdoor money flows into the private pockets of their elected officials at city hall. The speaker of the Leg spends $$$ like a drunken sailor on fancy trinkets & drapes, its in the news cycle for 48 hrs, and life goes on. The Feds cant account for $3.1 BILLION, said to have been spent on anti-terrorism, we think... Maybe... Were sort of sure it was... Yet, no outrage, no massive audit, no headlines for weeks on end. Accountability has to be homogenous, or its just spin.
