From Mike Hulme This is an opportunity to thank all of the QPCS families and friends for their continued support over the year. On refection, we have had another exceptional year and I am confident that we have achieved so much during the past three terms. I remember a particular saying during my formative years as a teacher which has stayed in my mind which is “a great school never stands still”. I do think that this has to be the case and at QPCS as we are continually striving to improve our standards, make the whole educational experience of the students ever challenging one and enriched, lead all to confidence and enjoyment, and to portray a ‘work ethic’ that encompasses hard work, responsibility and enjoyment. I am confident that there have been so many elements of such objectives which we have successfully achieved in 2013/14 and, looking back over these newsletters, it is heartening to see the involvement of the students, staff, parents and other stakeholders in our school. Thank you! Two key events which have summarised our ethos this week have been the Summer Concert and the Celebration Evening. Both exemplified the achievements of the school and how well our students have performed whether in the arts performances or in academic accomplishments. The concert was exceptional and the performances of the students sublime. The orchestra, the steel pans, the jazz band, the guitar ensemble, the cheerleaders and the fashion show were all stunning. This was seamlessly co-ordinated via media inserts offering a thematic introduction to each performance piece. I must say well done to all involved and obviously to my music colleagues, Mr Petter, Mr Pineda, Mr Pellow and, particularly, Ms Atkins. They all worked so hard and really brought the absolute best from all performers once more. I with the team well for their current trip to Holland as I write. “The summer concert was just magical. Thanks to all the students and to the staff for such a wonderful evening. I look forward to many more concerts in the future.“ …a parent The continuation of rewarding student’s success and achievement continued on Thursday with the Celebration Evening. Numerous individuals received well earned recognition of their academic and extra-curricular achievements over the year during the event. This annual gathering exemplifies and celebrates success at our school and that we recognise and reward accomplishment and excellence. Well done to all our award winners! When we reach the end of an academic year there is the inevitable movement of some staff who move to seek promotion or have decided to relocate. As a staff we will meet to say goodbye on the last school day and thank our leavers for their contribution to our school. We also then welcome new colleagues for the next academic year. This term sees the retirement of five key staff at QPCS who have given many years of loyal and professional service. Indeed, whilst we respect their choice to reach the end of their educational career, there is still a sense of sadness to realise that certain individuals will not be with the school next year. Those retiring are as follows: Ms Alexiev - Science Technician • Ms Chiswell – Girls PE and SEN support • Mr Lawler – Head of PSHCE • Ms Lawler – Year 8 Co-ordinator and Mathematics • Miss Akhurst – Sixth Form Co-ordinator and Art I am sure you join with me to thank our five retirees for their input and contribution to our school which amounts to many dedicated years of work in schools. It is safe to say that they will be sorely missed and I wish then much success for the future. The end of term and another academic year is upon us and the students will be dismissed from approximately 12.10 a.m. on Tuesday of next week. We return to school in September with the new Year 7 students having their first day in school on Wednesday, 3rd September and THE WHOLE SCHOOL (INCLUDING THE SIXTH FORM) ON THURSDAY, 4TH SEPTEMBER at 8.40a.m. It therefore remains for me to wish all our QPCS families a restful and peaceful summer holiday break to thank everyone for your continued support for our school.
