From Mike: On August 23, 2014, at approximately 11:45 p.m., I exited the Eisenhower Metro station in Alexandria, went through the turnstile and decided to add $1.10 to my SmartTrip card. The change stuck in the machine and I went to notify the on-duty attendant whose name was W. Lawson on the placard. He said there was nothing he could do and he didn’t have a key to open up the machine to get my money back. He seemed pretty put off that I would ask him. While I was talking to him, two other people attempted to use the same machine and their money was also swallowed. After I returned to tell Mr. Lawson that other people were having problems with the machine, he finally came out and tried to stick a straw in the machine to retrieve the money. He spent a whopping two seconds on that. I asked him how I was going to get my money back and he kept saying, “I don’t have any way to get your money. Its not my problem...get over it.” I have an idea on what happened to all the money that was building up in the machine, but will keep those thoughts to myself. The worst part of the entire experience, if losing your money is not bad enough, is the fact that Mr. Lawson started humiliating and attempting to embarrass me in front of a group of people coming through the exit turnstile. I kept hearing him getting louder and louder as I was leaving the station and he continued to tell them ”that guy is worried about losing some change and he is a real loser; what kind of asshole worries about money like that, etc.” I walked out of the station and could still him in a major tirade against me for at least 100 yards until the street noise drowned him out. He was like a crazy person. I have always been treated courteously and professionally by other employees when the stuck money issue has happened. I think Mr. Lawson should be terminated for his tirade. It was unprofessional and unacceptable. If he gets that upset over someone asking him for help, I can’t imagine how upset he would be if someone was dying and they asked him to call 911.
