From Missi We went to Minnesota yesterday for several follow up appointments. Brianna had a CT scan and then we met with Dr. Song (brain surgeon). Everything looked great with Briannas brain. The numerous fractures (breaks) and the two large hematomas (bleeds) in her brain are all healed. Brianna had a large bruise on the right side of her brain and unfortunately that part of her brain was damaged too much and did die. The ventricles (where the spinal fluid is held) are all smaller, which means there is no need to put a permanent shunt (a device that disposes of excessive spinal fluid in the brain) in. Dr. Song is amazed as well as thrilled at how well Brianna is doing and does not need to see her again until June, 2015. Dr. Gormley (main doctor) was extremely pleased with the progress Brianna has made. We are working on getting her off some of the medications she is currently on. The nerve in her right foot (the nerve that helps her lift her foot when walking) has healed some but it is unknown if the nerve will ever recover completely. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done if the nerve does not completely heal. Her strength has improved tremendously since we left the hospital. Dr. Gormley does not need to see Brianna until the end of January, 2015. We did stop and visited with a lot of the people that took care of Brianna during her hospital stay and they were all just as amazed/thrilled with Briannas progress. Overall it was a great day, with great news from the doctors!!!!!!
