From Mr. and Mrs. Mccall: All BBB supporters (Facebook Likes), it’s nice to show you support the efforts of others by liking the page, articles, etc., but right now we need your physical assistance, not just a LIKE button press. October 25th and 26th are the end stretch to this chapter for the BBB. The physical assistance of the over 800 people who pressed the LIKE button for this site would make little work of ensuring that a “Better Board” is created at the Salinas City Elementary School District Office, starting with the recall of Ms. Janet Barnes. Are you too nervous to go out? Take a friend, take your husband, take your wife, take another BBB supporter. We (my wife and I) have successfully collected signatures by going door to door at houses and apartments in Area #4. The problem wasn’t getting people to listen and sign the petition, it was locating registered voters who lived at the residence. Of the doors we knocked on, about 20% of the residence were either new to the area, not registered, or new immigrants to the United States and not Citizens (legal or illegal, we didn’t care. That isn’t my business). 1% of the people stated that they just didn’t know enough about the recall and/or Ms. Barnes actions at the District and declined on that basis and that was fine, we thanked them for their time. All of the people we met were friendly and listened to our speech, then if they were registered voters 98% to 99% of them signed our recall petition. A few of the people who signed our petition even had children who were taught by Ms. Barnes. We told them this was not a reflection of her ability as a teacher, this was as a result of her inability to act as a competent Area #4 Trustee. Trustee’s work with and for the people, Ms. Barnes seems to have forgotten that. Here is our speech minus our names and school so you can tailor this speech to your needs. By the way, no I’m not afraid to publish my name or the school my children attend, it’s Daniel McCall and my children attend Mission Park Elementary School. I have become very active at the Mission Park School by volunteering on my days off (about seven hours a week) to help the teachers and attending district meetings regularly now (once a month) to see the activities which are being voted on that affect my children. If you think Mission Park School children don’t need more help than they are currently receiving, maybe you would like to explain to me why I just met a young girl in the eleventh week of the first grade who still does not know her alphabet and with that can’t read with her peers. Where does the buck stop….With US! Let’s help these kids get the education they need. So with that said, here goes: Hi, I’m______ and this is my wife ______. I am fifty three years old and we have two children who attend ________(Mission Park Elementary School), I have a daughter in Kindergarten and a son in Third Grade. We are soliciting signatures from registered voters in area #4 for a recall petition for Ms. Janet Barnes, who is your Area #4 Trustee for the Salinas City Elementary School Dictrict Board. I’m not sure if you know it bit Ms. Barnes was not elected to her position, she took over in June of 2013 when her predecessor resigned from the position. Then in November of 2013, instead of running for office against an opponent, she ran unopposed for an election that few people even knew took place. The sad part is that the only people who have the ability to elect your representative for the Area #4 Trustee are people who live in Area #4, which would be you and your neighbors, although you probably never even knew there was an election. Secondly, Ms. Barnes and various other persons on the board consistently vote in opposition to what the public, and Area #4 parents, have to say at the board meetings. These people were not elected and/or appointed to dictate to us what they want to do as elected officials. They are to listen to the public and make decisions based on the will of the people of their area, in this case Area #4 and the schools that they represent. Ms. Barnes has not represented the Area #4 peoples wishes, as represented by her vote to displace three principles last year. Nor has she represented the Area #4 schools to the ability expected of an Area #4 Trustee. She has passed resolutions without facts (i.e. lack of books available in the schools she is trustee for) and failed to fight for Title I funding for the schools that she represented until this recall petition was started. Ms. Barnes was also instrumental in the appointment of Mr. Luza as the Salinas City Elementary School District Superintendent without doing a nationwide search for the best candidate, as requested by the teachers. This is not personal to us with regards to Ms. Barnes, we don’t know her as a person, but we don’t trust her as an Area #4 Trustee to represent our wishes or what is best for our children because she hasn’t. This is personal on the basis that I need to do what is best for my kids and that’s why I am taking the time to collect signatures for this recall. If the recall is not successful at least I know that I did my part to fight for my kids ability to have a better education and educational leaders. If our recall is successful and Ms. Barnes would like to run for office against an opponent in an open election which is well published, that would be fine. And if she should win, that would be fine also. At least the people who live in Area #4 would have a choice to elect a representative as the Area #4 Trustee and not just have one appointed. Would you like to sign our petition? With that said, they generally sign our petition and we thank them for their time. A lot of or signers have commented, “We sure do wish there were more people out there fighting to do the right thing. Our children deserve all that we as parents can do for them. Thank you for being out here for them.” When it is all said and done, did you do all that you could do during this recall to fight for your kids. Please help this weekend so you can say, “Yes! I did my part to help for a cause I believe in.” This is not just a fight for others to fight for you, this is a fight you need to get involved in, and we need your help.
