From Niki Barber: My daughter is almost 14 months old, She had her tube removed since October and I quit using it sometime in august. he had a swallow test in late sept that showed only 1 instance of aspiration and that was well into the test and she did it only once, So we thickened her formula a little and took the tube out. I then quit thickening her formula or juices at all by January. And she has been fine, No pneumonia or colds or anything. No breathing or issues at all. She had her barium swallow test done last week and she was aspirating on all the liquids they gave her. We are heart broken. Has this happened to anyone else? The speech therapist that did the test wants her to see the airway DR. and most likely have a chest x ray done to rule out anything in there. But we are all at a loss of why she is doing this now. The therapist did mention that sometimes kids can get worse as they get older because their suck gets stronger, and she has a delayed swallow. She also mentioned before leaving that if she is not having any airway issues or distress or pneumonia who is she to say she needs everything thickened... And she wants her to have honey thick and so far I have not had any luck getting baby girl to take it....... could this be a fluke test or is she possibly getting worse with aspiration but her body is fighting any form of infection from forming?
