From P: I want to try to be the voice of reason here. The tension is getting so thick that even I am feeling suffocated by it. I felt it necessary that i pull back a bit today to try and gain perspective. Not sure I have it yet, but I will attempt a go. We can not allow ourselves to turn on one another at this crucial point. Both the District and the Union have responsibility here for the students and the Districts motto of Students First must be kept in mind. While, the teachers should make what they have sacrificed for worth while and not settle for too little, there must be some conciliation. Abandoning the bargaining table looks bad when the parents are getting desperate to get their children back in school. Both sides need to not let up until this is settled. I understand the mother who last night asked both the Board and the Union to not use her children as pawns. Playing this out in the public is why the negotiations were supposed to be kept private. Fighting out in the open is not helping anyone have trust in the process. And it erodes any cohesion, which is why I believe the District puts theirs out there. Respecting teachers by paying what theyre worth is vital for creating schools that, in turn, build up the community, creating more wealth for all. I believe this. But, destroying the relationships we have spent so much time building will only erode the community. Lets do more to persuade others to our view than tearing others down for theirs. Truly listening to what others have to say goes a long way to getting them to listen to you. May this strike end soon.
