From Patti Peterson, Executive Director at the Bremerton Foodline - TopicsExpress

From Patti Peterson, Executive Director at the Bremerton Foodline - The Bremerton Foodline had a big week collaborating to help the homeless in our community. On Thursday we worked with kind people at the Oyster Bay Inn and provided clothing, shoes, a warm jacket and more to a man found on a park bench shivering in just sweatpants and a t-shirt because he had been robbed. Being homeless is dangerous. Unfortunately, the Severe Weather Shelter in our lobby is not open every night and so it closed for the week on Tuesday. As it happened, another homeless man came to us this morning and we found him outside when we opened our wooden donation box in front. We gave him breakfast and a newly donated winter jacket then took him to the Park Avenue KCR Housing Solutions office... they expedited his entry into Benedict House Mens shelter making his day a lot better with a clean bed, hot dinner, and counseling. This man was a veteran who had been honorably discharged in October and could not find work. Our afternoon was brightened working with a Bremerton High School Counselor who had a young girl that had been thrown out of her home with the clothes on her back. We were able to help her with clothing including a coat and a referral to our friends at Coffee Oasis youth shelter. When this community comes together, many miracles can happen. Thank you all for your support!
