From Preye AganabaSOMEONE JUST BROUGHT MY ATTENTION TO THIS ... I WROTE IT MORE THAN A YEAR AGO WHEN I WAS STILL ROOTING FOR PRESIDENT JONATHAN .... LOL .. IT HAS COME TO PASS Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, I beg to disagree....... Any government that has the constitutional right to approach the supreme court of nigeria as a court of first Instance can not be termed a provincial player... we need to come out of that mentality, if tinubu thought he was a provincial player am sure obasanjo and his federal might would have over-run lagos state back in 2003 .... but no, he approached the supreme court and got justice for almost everything that makes lagos thick today .... I shudder at the thought of what lagos would have been today if he had not confronted obasanjo headlong U want to build a seaport as state govt .......well, tinubu got that judgement at the supreme court, U want to build an airport and manage it, hello, tinubu also got the judgement at the supreme court, U want to plan bayelsa state without interference from abuja, yes tinubu also got that judgement, U want to control lottery, still pending at the supreme court, U want to control your waterways so that u can plan water transportation without interference from abuja, tinubu got it, U want to build a bridge across a river like the new lekki/VI bridge without interference from abuja, tinubu got it at the supreme court. U want to stop federal agencies from giving permits to outfits to advertise and place billboards on so called federal highwayswithin your state, tinubu got the judgement too ( placing adverts and billboards along bori camp on the port harcourt aba road use to attract payment to the nigerian army for example.... ridiculous??? Yes, it used to happen) U want to stop nigerian railway from turning areas along the railway line into makeshift markets (by given out permits for stalls and collecting revenue), tinubu got the judgement at the supreme court U want to stop federal govt from creating markets along federal highways in complete contravention of the planning policy of your state or LGA, tinubu got that judgement too ( fashola shut down and cleaned up the popular oshodi market and bottle neck along that road) U want to modify a building like an airport terminal, or building within army, police, navy etc etc barracks, tinubu got the supreme court to say they need approvals from the provincial player like lagos state and pay levies to the provincial player Well, the federal government is not that powerful afterall ..... These and many more judgements have fundamentally shapened the present day nigeria as we know it, and thats why lagos state govt can boast of over 30 billion naira internal revenue monthly ..... every issue concerning revenue and constitutional powers of lagos state as against that of the federal govt has been tackled or is being tackled at the supreme court ...... as a region/ state, they have outlined there objectives and are pursuing it with precision no matter who is at the helm of affairs in abuja ... isnt it curious that most of these judgements where gotten or initiated while obasanjo, a fellow yoruba was in power ..... as things stand today, no matter who rules in abuja, the south west region, especially lagos wont be affected by any adverse and arbitrary executive decision from abuja .... now can we say the same for our region ... the answer is obviously NO .... What are our set objectives as a state or region and how far can we go with this provincial power mentality .... what will happen to our objectives after Goodluck Jonathan leaves power in 2019 .... where are our own supreme court cases on the miriads of injustices done to us by successive military governments and there draconian decrees which our now acts of the national assembly...... Asking for what is due our region/state shouldnt translate to fighting the president .... Presidents come and go, but injustice never sorted out remains .... Im opposed to the sovereign wealth fund and urge all south south state (provincial players) governments to go to the supreme court to stop the kangaroo and unconstitutional act passed by the national assembly .... why should the federal govt save money meant for development of bayelsa ...... The federal govt has no business making plans for bayelsa state or any other state for that matter... It should save its own share of the oil money and allow other states to plan with theres ..... This provincial player mentality thing should stop .... If bayelsa wants to save her share or decides to spend it now based on the developmental needs of our people, then so be it ..... Our state government is not subservient to any other govt or authority, except the people of bayelsa state, likewise rivers state or any other state ... this point must be made clear irrespective of who is in authority at the federal level in abuja ..... the point should be made now, and our people mobilised along those lines because Goodluck Jonathan will not be president forever .... This obviously is the cardinal sin of Governor Amaechi ... Opposition to the sovereign wealth fund as it presently is. We still need to engage the federal government just like we did long before Goodluck Jonathan became president .... because after 2019 questions will be asked if nothing concrete comes out of this presidency. The presidency is not bigger than the demands of our people from years of oppression from the federal govt of nigeria .... The asprirations and needs of the people of bayelsa state and our region comes first before the presidency. It is supreme and sacrosanct...... Lets not sacrifice that on the alter of politics ... thisdaylive/…/amaechi-is-a-provincia…/146558/
