From Pro-Life Discussions: Is it a violation of bodily autonomy to prevent someone from committing suicide? Should we make it illegal to attempt to prevent someone from committing suicide? After all, isnt it their body, their choice? (Clarification: It is LEGAL to involuntary commit suicidal persons into a psychiatric unit/hospital. If the right to bodily autonomy exists, surely the right would include the right to be able to kill yourself without interference of others, and it would be a human rights violation to prevent someone from doing with their body what they wish, right? Yet it is NOT a human rights violation to prevent suicide, or to involuntarily admit people into psychiatric units/hospitals.)
