From Rachel - Great news! Olivia has been fever free since Friday night. She will get her last intravenous antibiotic tonight at midnight and will be discharged sometime tomorrow. Praise!!! The State Lab has a culture of Olivias bacteria and they are trying to get it to grow. We are hoping and praying it does grow. According to the CDC and Vaccines.gov there are 90 different types of Streptococcus Pneumoniae strands and currently the vaccine only protects against 13 of the most prevalent (PCV13 vaccine). If the culture grows we will know if the strand Olivia had was included in the vaccines she received or if another strand is becoming more common. In 2000, only 7 strands were in the vaccine (PCV7) and in February 2010 it was updated to 13. I believe Olivias illness is for the greater good; it is providing research and awareness. Our family is so incredibly blessed. Thank you all for your prayers, concern and donations. If there are any changes today, there will be an update. Heres to another good day!
